How did this idea come about? Why is it called?
Hebrew letters have numerical value. 666 The name Ns written in Hebrew N is numerical value, not Jewish h. 666 is related to N and then to evil in general and at some point to the concept of Christian numerals but not really numbers.
Revelation 13:14 says ... this is wisdom. Hopefully, he has the brain to count the numbers, because they are masculine numbers: the number is 666.
