What does the groom wear to the court wedding? ۔

My fianc and I want a private court wedding in November and a public wedding later, if we can afford it. We didn't want to wear jeans and a T-shirt, but we put on a tuxedo and went to the wedding. I can wear a simple skirt or dress, but we don't know what to wear. Shirts and pants look very formal. Any help is appreciated!
