WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) - How To Discuss

Writer Jessica Cortez

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol)

An open global specification that enables users of wireless devices to access and work with wireless information services and applications. WAP specifications are based on Internet standards with extensions to reflect the wireless environment. The WAP architecture specifications are organized as a protocol stack consisting of application, session, transaction, security, and transport layers. The application layer includes WML and WMLScript for content and a Wireless Telephony Application Interface (WTAI) for telephony service capabilities.

A standard for providing mobile data services to portable devices. It transfers internet content such as news, weather, travel, etc. to mobile phones and can also be used to provide rich content such as wallpapers, ringtones, videos, games, portals and other useful links. Incentivated provides mechanisms to write and deliver mobile Internet content to subscribers.

It is an international standard for wireless applications. WAP websites are now considered obsolete as mobile phones now have HTML compatible web browsers.
