I applied for a position on the post and they sent me an email asking them to do a background check through this site:
I don't know if this is spam or real. I hate not getting a job because I don't fill out forms. They ask all kinds of questions like social security number, driver number and so on. Does anyone know if this is real or just a hoax?

Well, I wouldn't believe that. They usually call you when you sign up, without a site. Why don't you call or ask them? I will not send you my information because as far as you know it may try to steal your identity etc.
No site is secure, except for the url (web address) ss, where shttp: // means secure and indicates a secure connection.
