Post-Click Conversion - How To Discuss

Writer Samuel Coleman

Post-Click Conversion

A PostClick conversion or PC conversion occurs when a user completes a conversion after one click. This click can happen anywhere (link, ad, email, etc.). The conversion doesn't have to happen right away, but only in the PostClick window.

The length of the post-click window is determined by the advertiser or website, but is usually 7 or 28 days.

This conversion type is used as a billing metric for CPA campaigns, but can also be used to demonstrate the success of other campaign types.

When only the last click is taken into account, this is referred to in analytics as the last click attribution.

Example of conversion after one click

Sheila sees a pizza ad on Facebook but ignores it. That same day, he sees a tweet from the pizzeria on Twitter and clicks on it this time. Sheila changes her mind at the last minute and closes her browser window before the website loads.

The next day, Sheila gets an email from a pizza place that's too good to resist and she clicks the link in it. Sheilas already has dinner plans, so she doesn't order.

But when she remembers all the delicious pizza ads she's seen, Sheila visits the pizzeria's website two days later and places an order.

To which channel would this sale be attributed via Facebook, Twitter or email?

In this case, Twitter and the messaging provider will include the post-click conversion in their statistics. Facebook does not record a post-impression conversion because it occurs outside the one-day post-impression window.

Most likely, a pizza company only attributes the conversion to the email they sent. That is because:

  1. They didn't register the click on Twitter because Sheila immediately closed the window.
  2. Most businesses use last-click attribution, so only the last click before placing an order can be attributed.
