Poet Naseer Turabi Passed Away

Renowned poet, author and intellectual, Naseer Turabi, passed away in Karachi on Sunday after succumbing to ill health.
Distinguished Urdu poet Naseer Turabi died of a heart attack here on Sunday evening. He leaves behind his wife and two sons.

Turabi was 75-years-old and will be laid to rest at Wadi-a-Hussain graveyard today (Monday) after ■■■■■■■ prayers at Zuhr at Imam bargah Shuhada-e-Karbala in Federal B Area Ancholi.

About Turabi

The late poet was the son of famed Urdu poet, linguist, lexicographer and famous religious speaker Allama Rashid Turabi.
Turabi was born on June 15, 1945, in Hyderabad Deccan, pre-partition India. He and his family migrated to Pakistan after independence. He started his journey as a poet in 1962 and did his Masters in Public Relations from the University of Karachi in 1968.

His First Written poem

The lyricist of the theme song of popular drama Humsafar had obtained a MA in Mass Communication from Karachi University in 1968. The poet had written four books, including Aks-e-Faryadi (Ghazliyat), Shairyaat, Laraib and Lughatul Awam (Urdu dictionary).

Humsafar

He considered the Dhaka Fall a great historic tragedy and that was expressed in his popular ghazal ‘Wo Humsafar Tha’, which he wrote after the split of East and West Pakistan in 1971. This ghazal was later used as the soundtrack for Pakistani drama serial, Humsafar.

First publication

Turabi’s first compilation of poetry ‘Aks-e-Faryadi’ was published in 2000. Along with his literary services, Turabi held key positions in several prominent institutions of Urdu literature.

Executive Member of Pakistan Writer’s Guild and Affiliated with Eastern union

He served as an executive member of Pakistan Writer’s Guild, was a member of the KU syndicate, and a member of Area Study Centre, Europe’s board of governors. Besides, he was honored with the Allama Iqbal Award by the Pakistan Academy of Letters.
He was also affiliated with Eastern Federal Union, an insurance company, as a public relations officer.

Prof. Sahar Ansari

Poet Prof Sahar Ansari said, “It’s a personal and cultural loss. He was a unique individual. He belonged to an eminent family because of which he had a certain cultured behavior towards life. His discipline was exemplary. He would meet with his friends and relatives with purity of heart.

DR. Pirzada Qasim

Poet Dr Pirzada Qasim said, “My association with him goes back 57 years. We, as students in the past, come from the same time period. He was deeply rooted in the tradition of literature and learning. His progress as a poet was special. The ghazal number that [Ahmed Nadim] Qasmi Sahib took out had his kalaam in it.

Condolences of Other Artists

The poet fraternity, including Dr Shadab Ahsani, Zaib Azkar, Rehana Roohi, Khalid Moin, Fatima Zehra Jabeen, Dr Hina Ambreen, Shagufta Shafiq, Injila Hamesh, Ishrat Moin Seema, Prof Shahnaz Perveen, Masood Qamar, Ehtesham Anwar and others expressed their deep condolences to the bereaved family and Urdu world for the loss.
It is said Turabi was one of the greatest Urdu poets and linguists.
Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen leaders have also expressed grief over the poet’s demise.
