Page views are only important insofar as they play a role in the revenue model of a website. When a website receives the majority of its ad revenue, page views are important because of their contribution to ad inventory. If a website only generates revenue from sales, page views are not an important metric. Pageviews without an associated income can even be considered an expense.

Pageviews are measured by the number of times visitors open a page on a website. This metric is the total number of page views of a website, including visits from users who visit multiple pages of a website.

A pageview occurs when one of your pages on your site has fully loaded (and a visitor is expected to see it). If a visitor goes to your site and views 3 pages, that's 3 page views.
