Is the original word worse?

Apparently worse is a word that has been around for a long time. Example: This shows that, in true worship, jealousy is never in its worst state.

It is no longer in common use and is no longer considered the original word. In fact, the Spell Checker widget (which only highlights the word Spell Checker) asked me to fix it.

Instead of being worse, it can be worse or worse.
