maybe not. The lactic acid used to make calcium may or may not be animal. Animal resources are cheap.

Many processed foods, especially sweeteners, use charcoal for smoking. Many manufacturers also use bone charcoal in their water filtration process.

ETA: Calcium is not fermented sugar. It is a salt obtained from the treatment of calcium carbonate with lactic acid. Calcium carbonate can also come from non-vegan sources such as oysters.
