Image Recognition

Image recognition technologies aim to identify objects, people, buildings, places, logos and anything of value to consumers and businesses. Camera-equipped smartphones and tablets have moved this technology from industrial applications (such as fruit sorting) to consumer applications. For example, logos, cars, landmarks, wine labels, book and album covers can be identified from consumers' smartphones with a mobile app that has access to cloud-based image recognition. Image recognition can convert an image into a hyperlink to something on the Internet (such as information, services, coupons, or videos). It can also be used for search, which is one of the main reasons why Google and Amazon have invested in this technology. In addition, image recognition has applications in security and content management. Our definition of image recognition does not include video analysis or video research, although video analysis often includes image recognition technologies.
