How old should Demon Salvatore be?

In the books, he says he is 20 years old. On SW, I think the authors are driving him crazy. I remember Demon talking to Elena last Friday, but Caroline was too young for him and Elena said she was no younger than you. Assuming that Elena and Caroline were Stephen's age, Damon would have started twenty years old. What happened was that Ian Sommer Holder was 31 years old. MDR But he cares, he exists. XP

I think there is a big age difference between Stephen and Damon because if you look at his mother's flashback where Damon was speaking, Stephen was 10 years old, but like Damon, he is 16 or older. Was So if anyone knows the age difference between Demon and Stephen, I want to know.

And I don't mean that he has lived for years or so it seems to me, but how do you know that Stephen was 17 years old and that he was a demon when he changed?
