The Nes Odyssey is open from the outside

Internal release lever does not work: it opens freely but does not pinch the cable. However, I can't pull any more wires (even with pliers) and the outer diameter is not visible. Not sure if the cable is broken (won't it move freely in this case?) I wonder if there is any way to specifically open the OD from the outside for this model?
