Definition of General contractor:

1. A person who or business which contracts to undertake the entirety of a project and is responsible for coordinating all aspects of it, including acquiring materials and hiring subcontractors.

2. Firm that performs a contract all by itself, or through the use of subcontractors whose activities it supervises and coordinates.
