Five Daughters Sons - How To Discuss

Math problems with five daughters and sons? 3

Between January 1 and May 31, Mrs. Jackson had five children: Jane, Jane, John, John and Jill. The boys' names, without any specific order, were Leonard, Edward, Harry, Malcolm and David. What are the names of each daughter and in what month was she born? Each girl gives RTH in a different month.

1. Jill's baby was born after Harry and both were born after Leonard.

2. David was born to Harry, but neither David nor Malcolm were born first or last.

3. John, Jane, and Jane speak in this order.

4. Malcolm, Edward, Beta Jones, and the son born in March are all blonde.

5. John's son is older than Harry and Malcolm.

I know I have to make this table / grid and then go through the things you know can't be on the signal, but I keep messing with it. Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance!

John Leonard (January)

Jane David (February)

Jane Harry (March)

Jill Malcolm (April)

June Edward (May)

Make a box with the girl's name on the left and the month JFMAM below. At the top of the grid, type the thread name LEHMD and then the month JFMAM.

1. Jill isn't the mother of Harry or Leonard, so check the name next to Jill. Jill's baby could not be born in January or February because H and L were born, so cross out J and F for several consecutive months before Jill.

In the column below L, cross out April and May as two more children should be born after L. Below H, Jan (born after L) and Mai (born after Jill's baby).

Cross out January and May under D (note). Do the same with Malcolm. Then go with Harry until February, because now L and D were born soon. Cross the Jill line of Mars as you have three children, D, L, and H.

3. In the queue, cross April and May for June as there are still two rooms to follow.

4. In M, mark June and March. On the June line, take a look at Edward and cross out all the other names. The dot means that it is the correct answer to your child's name. Remove the March from the June line. In the March series, Malcolm and Edward cross out (by name).

5. In John's line, cross out Harry and Malcolm, and cross April and May as they are two quarters later.

At this point, you should be able to find rows or columns that have only one empty box in the category: name, date. Suppose you have a box for a one month old mother. Then look under the children's names to see if W has been cross-out for a month. Then go back to the parent line and cross that name. If you keep coming back then maybe you can do something.

Dell Magazine and Penny Press publish magazines with such logical puzzles. They have a brief description of what to do, tables to fill, and answers. There may be many n.

I now

Jane David

Jane Harry

John Leonard

John Edward

Jill Malcolm

I'm bored at work, but I like small questions like that. Hard to understand, but not hard to do.
