A document that describes what is needed for a given content. Publishers are usually instructed to ensure that they produce the required content. The briefing can be about specific content or it can be general and part of an overall content strategy.

A description of what is needed in the content before writing is also known as an editorial note. They are usually provided to authors before the content is created.
