Data Transfer - How To Discuss

Data Transfer
Definition
The total amount of outbound traffic to a website*, usually measured in gigabytes (GB).
Information
* Email is generally excluded.
The difference between bandwidth and data transfer is confusing and worth mentioning.
Bandwidth is bandwidth and data transfer is the sum. For example, you can buy a bandwidth of 128 kbps for a maximum monthly data transfer of about 40 GB.
| 128 kbps | = bits | = bytes |
| per second | 128000 | 16000 |
| within a minute | 7,680,000 | 960,000 |
| on a | 460.8 million | 57,600,000 |
| in one day | 11,059,200,000 | 1,382,400,000 |
| per month | 331.776 million | 41,472,000,000 |
| divide by billion ~41 GB/month |
Remark. Many hosts use the terms "bandwidth" and "data transfer" interchangeably and refer to the monthly data volume as bandwidth.
